A little bit about us. . .

A little bit about us…

Hi!  We are so excited to have you at Zootown. We are Scott and Kayla, owners of ZTCF, and we thought it would be good to give you a little bit of insight as to who we are and what this gym is all about.

We have been in the fitness industry for a total of 20+ combined years. Kayla has taught group fitness and ran her own personal training business for over 12 years before finding Crossfit. Scott has coached Crossfit, both adults and kids, for over 10 years. We both competed in triathlons before realizing raising kids and finding training time was hard. Thank goodness someone invited us to try CrossFit. We fell in love with the "sport" and it's constantly varied approach to fitness.

At Zootown, we may be a bit different than other Crossfit affiliates.

You may notice our programming utilizes the full hour and we get a lot done. Also, our prescribed weights may be a bit heavier than the normal Rx weights. At Zootown, we program for the best athletes in the gym so that the stimulus remains the same for everyone (when scaled appropriately). It’s not out of the ordinary for 90% of our classes to scale the workout so that they maintain the intensity and intention of the workout. Listen to your coaches when it comes to scaling and modifying so that you get the most out of your time and efforts.

We are big on consistency and moving well. We want you to come and move at least 3 days a week. In Crossfit, we do a LOT of different movements so it’s important that you are coming and practicing these movements in high repetitions and often. We are big believers in allowing the body to learn efficiency and good technique through repetitive movement and the guidance of a coach.

Speaking of technique…at Zootown, it will ALWAYS be technique over intensity.  We want you to get the full range of motion with good technique before loading a barbell up. Our coaches are well trained to help you move better and progress safely so always lean on them for guidance. If they tell you to start with a 15 pound barbell or PVC pipe, listen to them. We all start somewhere and it’s important to build a good foundation of movement.

Our doors open 15 minutes before classes begin and stay open 15 minutes afterwards (unless there is open gym). This is a great time to get set up for class, mobilize, work on skills or ask a coach for some help. We ask that any extra be done by the time the next class is starting.

We are big on community and that’s why we put on events outside of class. We want you to come. We want you to bring your significant other or a friend. Watch for our Trivia Nights, BBQ’s, Christmas party and more!

We are so excited to have you as a valued part of our community and we can’t wait for you to experience the magic of Crossfit and all that it offers, even beyond the fitness.
